Summary
Abstract. Breast cancer is the pathology with the highest death rate and it is the most frequent cancer in women over the world. It is expected to be diagnosed without the existence of a palpable tumor, and mammography is the examination which allows to detect it. A retrospective transversal study has been performed, where 122 medical histories from the files of the University Hospital La Samaritana were checked out, these patients had non palpable lesions of the breast and they had a needle-guided biopsy during a seven and a half year period, in order to identify the prevalence of breast lesions and its complications. The study reported 8 cases of complications and cancer in 14 of the 124 biopsies with a positive rate of 100% for Bi-rads V lesions. These results demonstrate that suspicious mammographic findings must be studied, and that needle-guided biopsy is a resource that allows to detect and in some cases to treat breast tumors in an early stage, (sometimes complications during the treatment may occur). Keywords
