This thesis aims to explore and understand how affects and emotions influence artistic creative processes and the meaning that art historians can derive from them. We know that when a person encounters a work of art, they initially experience a sensation. This experience can lead them to approach and become interested in the artwork or distance themselves from it. It is interesting to observe how art historians, despite being motivated and guided by the artworks and artistic phenomena that interest them, tend to distance themselves from them to maintain their disciplinary objectivity. In contrast, the thesis invites one to be affected and guided by certain gestures and marks in the artworks, both formal, technical, and material (such as support, colors, shapes, and textures), as well as subjective, which reveal emotional states, identities, places, or experiences. Within the subjective marks, there are queer marks, which are described here as transgressive possibilities of normative directions and orientations. This approach is useful for analyzing and understanding the human and artistic contributions of three Colombian artists: Lorenzo Jaramillo, Fernando Arias, and Daniel Santiago Salguero. It also sheds light on the artists’ processes of confronting the development of their identity, as well as the reflection of these processes in the marks of affects, which are signals that artists place in the artworks to indicate their uniqueness. These marks come from the body, distinguish, delimit, and provide meaning to artistic and biographical production. Exploring these processes and marks of affect requires an alternative methodology, as it involves the subjective participation of the author and is based on personal interactions with the artists and their acquaintances, as well as an exploration of their personal archives. These strategies allow for highlighting intimate aspects that are essential to understanding the inherent richness of the artworks and, at the same time, demonstrating their contributions to art history. Keywords
