Cities: country development engines

Abstract

This text gives consideration to the historical relationship between the city and the countryside, the main idea is propose a coherent relationship between the Latin American mayor cities and the not yet defined country role, towards the improvement of the nation’s destiny. The author calls attention on the fact that the cities grow disproportionately, without control or prevention on the impact to the environment, threatening the equilibrium city/countryside. In Venezuela, he considers the case of Caracas city and its closest regional system.

El texto considera la relación histórica entre la ciudad y el campo en la historia para proponer una relación futura que sea coherente con las necesidades de las ciudades latinoamericanas, y el aun no definido rol del campo, en el porvenir de las naciones. El autor llama la atención sobre el hecho de que las ciudades crecen desmesuradamente, sin control y sin prevención sobre el impacto en el ambiente, poniendo en riesgo la sostenibilidad de la relación ciudad-campo. Examina en Venezuela, el caso de la ciudad de Caracas y el sistema de ciudades regional más próximo.
