Afroargentinian music through the iconographic documentation

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to enrich knowledge onAfroargentinian music through iconographic documentation.In the past, iconographic sources were usedmerely as illustrations and/or as decortive frames thatdid not raise questions or offer answers. The analysis ofvisual sources opens a sui géneris door for the explorationof the past and understanding of the present musicalmanifestations of this group.

En este artículo deseo enriquecer el conocimiento que setiene sobre la música afroargentina a través de la documentacióniconográfica. Generalmente, esta fuente nofue empleada más que para ilustrar trabajos y/o reforzarlas conclusiones al amparo de un marco meramentedecorativo, no para dar nuevas respuestas o plantearnuevas cuestiones. La posibilidad de analizar fuentesvisuales abre una puerta sui géneris para explorar elpasado y comprender el presente de este grupo.
