Enseñanza religiosa y poder clerical. Estados Unidos de Colombia, 1863-1886

Abstract

La Constitución Política de los Estados Unidos de Colombia de 1863 y el Decreto Orgánico de la Instrucción Pública Primaria de 1870 incluían ciertos artículos que parecían aminorar el dominio de la Iglesia católica en la educación. El presente documento muestra, por medio del análisis de algunos textos de enseñanza representativos de la época, cómo la educación religiosa en la escuela, pese al surgimiento de tales reglamentaciones, gozó de gran difusión y se mantuvo sin problemas considerables, casi que incólume, con respecto a ese poder que intentaba ponerle límites. Esto parecían manifestarlo las páginas de aquellos manuales escolares que exhibieron el divorcio entre las leyes y las lecciones enseñadas.

The 1863 Political Constitution of the United States of Colombia and the 1870 Organic Decree regarding Elementary Public Education included articles that seemed to limit the control of education by the Catholic Church. Through the analysis of some school textbooks representative of the period, the article shows how despite the aforementioned regulations, religious education was widespread in schools and remained practically untouched by the attempts to impose limits on it. The pages of those textbooks clearly show the gap between the laws and the lessons taught in schools.
