In recent years, an increase in the incidence of the disease has been observed in different corn producing areas, associated with the increase in populations of Dalbulus sp. The department of Huila has been one of the regions most affected since 2015. Based on the problem posed, the present work had as objectives, to corroborate the species of the genus Dalbulus associated with the sanitary problem of maize in municipalities of the department of Huila, to determine their abundance and within the collected populations to evaluate the presence of possible morphotypes. Likewise, within these populations, to determine the frequency of infection with the mollicutes that cause corn stunting. From the insect samples, 6.722 individuals of the genus Dalbulus were collected, all of which belonged to the species D. maidis. The greatest abundance of this species was concentrated in the municipality of Garzón. Four morphotypes were identified through morphological characterization. The detections of the causal agents of corn stunt showed an infection percentage of 34% of Spiroplasma kunkelii, 15% of Candidatus phytoplasma asteris and 8% of mixed infections within the vector. This work is the first to characterize morphotypes of D. maidis, as well as to determine the frequency of infection with mollicutes in Colombia and can be considered the basis for future research on mollicutes-vector interaction, which will allow a better understanding of the vector from the point of view of presence, abundance, and percentage of infection with mollicutes.
