Effect of Zinc supplementation in different Zinc sources on the Eimeria spp., control and growth of two sheep breeds in Colombian tropic highlands: Eimeriosis is a disease caused by parasites of the genus Eimeria, in Colombia the knowledge about the infection and its manifestations in ovines is scarce. The objective of this study was to know the species of Eimeria present in the herds of CIDTEO, and the effect of supplementation with an inorganic and an organic source of zinc on the excretion of oocysts and the presence of diarrhea and the decrease in weight gain in Creole and Hampshire breeds of the Centro Agropecuario Marengo (CAM). The body weight and its association with linear measurements were found for these two breeds. Results: The Eimeria species identified in the four breeds analyzed: Criolla, Hampshire, Romney Marsh and Corriedadale were: E. ashata, E. ovinoidalis, E. crandallis, E. faurei, E. granulosa, E. parva, E. weybridgensis, E. pallida, E. ovina and E. punctata. For the supplementation phase it was found that the oocyst count, transformed to log oocysts per gram (log OPG) was higher in the Hampshire breed than in the Criolla (2.92 vs. 2.29, P<0.05). The main manifestation was soft stool consistency, profuse diarrhea was found only in 4 / 82 individuals. Lamb body weight was affected by breed and type of lambing (P<0.001). Zinc supplementation had no effect as a protector against infection but did have an impact on decreasing the presentation of diarrhea and a trend toward decreased weight gain reduction at peak oocyst/ g fecal shedding. body weight was higher for single births (7.75 kg vs. 9.69 kg, P<0.05). It was also found that the Criollo breed is more resilient to the consequences of the infection. The Hampshire breed showed higher body weight (9.25 kg vs 8.19 kg), Body weight prediction equations for suckling lambs were developed from linear measures for each breed.
