Resumen
Abstract
In this research, the objective was to approach the experiences lived by women who have
been diagnosed psychiatrically, in order to carry out an exercise of recognition from their
voices to make these experiences visible. Such an exercise was carried out taking into account
their struggles and resistance from the appearance of the diagnostic label. The methodology
of this research has been strongly influenced by qualitative approaches, which respond to the
critical-social paradigm, through Participatory Action Research (PAR). This made it possible
to situate and privilege the knowledge of each of the participants who remained active
throughout the entire process for this research.
The methodological strategies used throughout the investigation focused on the analysis of
discourses, life narratives and creative conversations; Doing, not only, analyze the linguistic
exercise, but also the joint construction of a critical narrative around the problem addressed.
From the categories of: women and madness, emotional suffering, stigma, self-stigma and
discrimination, the results were analyzed. Which allowed this research to highlight the need
to know and recognize the voices of women who are affected by a psychiatric diagnosis and
the way in which this influences their: self-stigma and the impact of stigma, that is,
discrimination in the way to heal. In short, the impact that a diagnostic label has on the life
experience of women who have been psychiatrically diagnosed. Which leaves a pending task
but that cannot be postponed: vindicate the stories, narratives, Lives and bodies of women
diagnosed psychiatrically. A task that not only competes with the health sector, but also
involves different sectors of society, such as: health, education, environment, habitat,
mobility, recreation and sports, participation and social action, community-based
organizations, professional associations, families etc.
Keywords: woman, madness, emotional suffering, stigma.
