En primer lugar el papel de la universidad, diferenciándolo del resto de la educación superior no universitaria. En segundo lugar la necesidad de fomentar la acumulación de conocimiento y en particular de la investigación como vía para asegurar el crecimiento económico sostenible de las sociedades. Como tercer aspecto clave se repasa el proceso europeo de reforma de la universidad, el cual ha exigido que dichas instituciones se adapten a un nuevo entorno, más competitivo, y con nuevos estándares de calidad. Por último se ha hecho un repaso del potencial de la investigación en Administración para responder a este desafío de investigación de calidad.Abstract: This document pretends to summarize a set of very basic ideas but very clear and important at the same time. In first place the role of the university, to differentiate it to the rest of not universitary superior education. In second place the need to foment the accumulation of knowledge and particularly of research as way to secure the sustainable economic growth of societies. As third clue aspect, is reviewed the European process of university reform, which has required the institutions to adapt to a new environment, more competitive and with a new quality standards.
