Este trabajo camina bajo este horizonte de sentido. En concreto, consideramos que la novela latinoamericana escrita a finales del siglo XX propone representaciones simbólicas de una realidad que se presenta problemática, unilateral. En particular, analizamos cuáles son los sentidos que plantean dos novelas, una chilena y otra argentina, respecto a contextos represivos. Para ello, tomamos dos textos escritos durante los gobiernos dictatoriales de Rafael Videla en Argentina (1976-1983) y de Augusto Pinochet en Chile (1973-1990). La primera novela, Respiración artificial (1980), fue escrita por el argentino Ricardo Piglia durante la dictadura de la Junta de comandantes de las Fuerzas Armadas; la segunda, escrita por Diamela Eltit durante la dictadura militar del Jefe del ejército chileno Augusto Pinochet, se titula El cuarto mundo (1988).Abstract. The question about the relationship between written literature and its context remains amongst several authors, especially in Latin America where the query is extended to the point of considering the link of the piece to the political circumstances of its time. This dissertation works along this horizon of meaning. Specifically, we consider that the Latin American novel written in the late 20th Century proposes symbolic representations of a reality shown as problematic, unilateral. Particularly, we analyse which are the meanings prompted by two novels, one Chilean and the other Argentinian, regarding oppressive settings. In order to achieve this goal two writings produced during the dictatorial governments of Rafael Videla in Argentina (1976-1983) and Augusto Pinochet in Chile (1973-1990) are examined.
