Con la mejoría en la supervivencia global de los niños con cáncer, surge un aumento en sus complicaciones, que usualmente requieren manejo en la Unidad de Cuidado Intensivo Pediátrico (UCIP). Este es un estudio poblacional observacional descriptivo longitudinal de recolección ambiespectiva con el que se pretende describir la caracterización demográfica, patológica y los desenlaces de los niños atendidos en UCIP del Instituto Nacional de Cancerología. Además de explorar la mortalidad atribuible dentro de esta unidad, las causas y sus asociaciones. Se evaluaron 201 pacientes correspondientes a 261 ingresos, la mediana de la estancia fue de 7 días, la mayoría de ellos con leucemia linfoide aguda (22,4%), con tumores sistema nervioso central con 29 (14,4%) y con tumores óseos (7,9%); el motivo de ingreso fue más frecuente por causa médica (67,4%). La mortalidad atribuible a la UCIP fue el 12,2% (32 niños), dentro de sus causas la principal se registró como disfunción multiorgánica, seguida de afección de sistema nervioso central.Resumen
Abtract. With the increase in overall survival of children with cancer, comes an increase in complications which usually required management in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU ) . This is a longitudinal observational descriptive study with ambiespective collection that pretends to describe the demographic pathological characteristics and outcomes of the children treated in PICU from the National Cancer Institute. Besides to explore the attributable mortality in this unit, and their causes and associations. Were evaluated 101 patients corresponding to 261 admissions, most of them with acute lymphoid leukemia ( 22.4%), central nervous system tumors in 29 (14.4% ) and bone tumors (7.9%), the reason for admission was more common for medical cause ( 67.4%). The mortality attributable to the PICU was 12.2% (32 children) within the main causes was recorded as multiple organ dysfunction, followed by central nervous system commitment.
