Abstract : This article studies the influence of risk propensity on the decision to create a new venture in the Colombian context; initially a review of existing theory was carried out with respect to risk propensity, new venture decision (entrepreneurship) and the interaction of both variables, revealing a lack of studies of this relationship; then the operationalization of the variables was carried out from the database of Global Entrepreneurship Management (GEM), also adding other factors that might explain this phenomenon (age, gender, education level, among others), in order to perform a binary logistic regression that would allow the relationship between new venture decision, and the study variables to be identified. It was found that there is indeed a positive relationship between risk propensity and entrepreneurship as the theory supports, and also that the decision to set up a venture is influenced by age, gender, education level, marital status, the belief in one’s own skills, abilities and relevant experience, and also knowing someone who has started his own venture in the past two yearsKeywords
