Abstract. Static corrections are one of the most challenging steps on obtaining good quality images of converted wave seismic data in hydrocarbon exploration. In this investigation I applied concepts of interferometry, where initially, the emergence angle of the raypaths of converted wave is controlled through a radial domain transformation (Claerbout, 1975). The technique was applied to a set of synthetic models with variations in the weathering zone (undulated base, lateral velocity variations and random statics) and to one seismic line from the Llanos Orientales (Colombia). In both cases more interpretable stacked images were obtained that improved considerably not only on time coherence but also in phase and waveform of the perturbations caused by the weathering zone. The results are comparable to more conventional methods of residual static correction. The application of this technique to areas with strong weathering and the presence of a variable water table constitute a consistent static correction approach for multicomponent seismic projects to develop in Colombia.
