Abstract: The emerald deposits are located on the eastern and western margins of the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia, in the departments of Boyacá and Cundinamarca, on the so-called eastern and western emerald belts respectively. In the eastern belt, 8 mines were studied in the districts of Gachalá, Chivor and in the mining districts of Coscuez, Muzo and Quípama, corresponding to the western belt, another 8 mines were studied. Mineralization in all districts is mainly found in black carbon shales and calcareous rocks. The present work aims to contribute to the geochemical and mineralogical knowledge of the emerald deposits in Colombia, through the search of specific geochemical and mineralogical signatures directly in the precious mineral, taking into account that they are a key piece for the understanding of the processes that allowed the crystallization of the emeralds and these signatures are the product of the nature of the host rock, the mineralizing fluid, the fluid-rock geochemical dynamics and the pressure and temperature conditions of the environment. The information processing was performed mainly through analysis of Principal Components Analysis and Cluster analysis. The eastern belt presented an Al-Sc-Cr-Li assembly which could indicate the impoverishment of the mineralizing fluid at the moment of crystallization in elements from the dissolution of evaporite due to the precipitation of albite, calcite-dolomite and pyrite. In contrast to the western belt, which presented a sign of Na-Mg-Rb-K-Ni-Mn, which could be due to the tectonic regime in this belt (different from the Eastern belt) and to a possible saline re-injection that could occur according to Cheilletz et al. (1994) and that would be confirmed with this work. The alkali metal enrichment in the western belt is according with the high incorporation into the microchannels of these metals, determined by the water ratio of Type II / Type I (in H2O, HDO and D2O) by infrared spectroscopy. Finally, the Eastern belt presented a Be-Sc-Mn-Fe-Co-Rb-K-Bi assembly in the active sediments, with elements with high affinity for organic matter such as Be and Bi, siderophils such as Fe-Co and alkali metals Rb-K. The Western belt presented an assembly of Cu-Zn-As-Cd-Tl-Ni-Cr-Sr-Ba-Ca-U-V, where stands out the chalcophile group Cu-Zn-As-Cd-Tl, and also the presence of a geochemical signature of calcareous rocks with Ca-Sr-Ba. 8 The micro-Raman analysis in fluid inclusions, allowed to determine CO2 gas phase densities differences in the emerald belts, with lower densities occurred in the Eastern belt (0.083-0.137 g/cm3 ) and higher (0.272-0.276 g/cm3 ) in the Western belt. This could be related to possible tectonic differences in each belt at the time of emerald crystallization.
