Abstract: Between 2008 and 2012, a bimonthly monitoring of fish in La Miel river basin (Magdalena Medio) was made in 5 stations, as part of the management and monitoring plan of the impacts associated with the construction of the Amaní reservoir. This assignment evaluated the population dynamics of four of the most frequent fish species of La Miel river (Prochilodus magdalenae, Astyanax fasciatus, Argopleura magdalenensis, Creagrutus affinis). In addition, during the sampling years there were two extreme contracting periods: Low rainfall, which included the years 2008, 2009 and 2010, and high rainfall in 2011 and 2012; therefore, the effect of seasonality on these fish populations on La Miel river, a regulated system for the generation of hydroelectric energy, was evaluated through the population structure of each species. Average temperatures and average river levels were evaluated, length-weight relations, size, frequency distribution, age and growth values, catch per unit of effort (CPUE) and recruitment pattern by species were evaluated. A linear regression was performed to describe the relation between the sizes of the individuals and the temperatures taken during the two periods. The species presented negative allometric growth except C. affinis that presented an isometric growth. The difference between the periods for the type of growth was presented in Astyanax fasciatus, since the period with low rainfall was isometric, and negative allometric in the period with high rainfall. While Creagrutus affinis showed a negative allometric growth rate in the period with low rainfall and isometric in the period with high rainfall. The temperature showed significant differences between the periods but the mean levels of the river did not show significant differences. P.magdalenae, A.magdalenensis y C.affinis in the low rainfall period grew and reached their adult stage faster, were less long-lived, had a higher mortality and matured earlier, compared to the high rainfall period, while Astyanax fasciatus grew slower in the low rainfall period, was longer lived, had a lower mortality and therefore matured later. The species P. magdalenae and C. affinis showed significant differences of the sizes between the two periods, these two species showed that the temperature influenced the differences found in the sizes. The recruitment pattern doesn’t have significant differences in the periods for any of the species, and in relative abundance it’s only related to the differences between the periods. Since the water level doesn’t have significant differences, if we take into account the little variability that is taken into account in the relative abundance and the recruitment pattern in this study, but this must be corroborated with the flow data that weren’t available for this study.Palabras clave
