Ecological economics studies focus on the social metabolism from a complex environmental perspective. It analyzes integrally the social, economic and ecological characteristics of a specific context. The present study evaluates the environmental sustainability of the agricultural and livestock productive systems in the high mountain Complex Paramo de Guerrero. The main conflict in the region revolves around the threat of the expansion of the agricultural and livestock productive systems in both potato monoculture and cattle establishing. These two productive systems changed and harmed the normal environmental trajectory of the mountains with regards to water supply and remnants´ forest and paramo. In addition these production systems have affected two millions people in the region including the Colombian capital. To analyze this phenomenon multicriteria analysis method was used. The study evaluated 43 criteria: 11 social, 13 economic, 11 ecologic and 8 institutional. The final assessment was collected in a multicriteria matrix and was outlined through a cluster analysis. According to the analysis the attraction of these two productive systems did not bring necessarily the expected benefit to the established people and it has been developed in an unsuitable way. Policy makers should acknowledge the complicity of the situation therefore, avoid monocriteria logics for the decision taking. Keywords
