dc.description.abstract | Fourth Order gravity theory, discussed by S. Banerjee, S. Vera and T. Singh (2017), is the gravity theory presented in this work. This model is applied to the problem example of the gravitational waves produced by a binary system. Einstein's Field Equations include an additional term that depends on fourth derivatives of the metric tensor, g, and that it's scaled by a parameter L whose possible values are given by the examination of the effects of this new term in the calculation of the energy loss of the system on that predicted by general relativity. The FOG Field Equations are constructed in the weak field limit in order to obtain the modified wave equations, as well as the Poisson modified equation for the gravitational potential in the newtonian limit, whose solution for the binary system consists of the newtonian gravitational potential plus a Yukawa potential. Wave's equation solutions are used in order to compute the energy loss by gravitational radiation in this system. In additon, these results are used in the example of the binary pulsar Hulse-Taylor (PSR 1913+16), in order to find the possible values of L by considering the period decay and the orbital precesion of the system. |
