dc.description.abstract | In recent years, there has been a boom in socio-environmental conflicts in the mining industry, and water conflicts are the ones that have become the most important in the mining sector. One of the most controversial mining projects in Colombia in the last decade is the La Colosa mining project, due to the water conflict generated by the project between the community of Cajamarca (Tolima) and the mining company AngloGold Ashanti. This thesis provides a considerable contribution to livelihoods, as it provides a greater understanding of water conflicts and introduces the sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda. In turn, it provides information on the influence of water conflicts on the achievement of these goals. The methodological framework of this thesis follows the findings of literary information. Still, it focuses mainly on the analysis of primary information, through the implementation of interviews with local government officials, people from the rural areas of influence of the mining project, representatives of agricultural associations, representatives of NGOs, and people from the commercial and service sector of the municipality of Cajamarca. One of the conclusions reached in this research is that the Cajamarca area's conflict does not correspond to a conflict over water but rather to a problem caused by the mining project's socio-economic impacts. |
