D has been configured as a problematic pathological entity with a status of “truth” maintained by a power that circulates in discourses on mental health disorders. ADHD has been the most frequent diagnosis in childhood, and due to this, it has gained importance in the health and education scopes. This work aims to deconstruct these discourses in order to understand how ADHD has been reified in our context. It has been defining the possibilities of boys’ and girls’ subjectivation and delimiting the actions of their caregivers. The research problem has been tackled from the socio-constructionism theoretical perspective and the concept of biopower. Thus, mental health disorders, gender, and age have been understood as socio-cultural constructions that have been built due to the power that circulates in dominant discourses and, how it has been exercised on the bodies defining the possibilities of expression of the self. The research methodology has been based on critical discourse analysis. To collect the information, autobiographical and episodic narrative interviews have been applied to groups of boys and girls with a diagnosis of ADHD, as well as their fathers, mothers, or caregivers. In addition, discussion groups have been conducted with teachers together with in-depth interviews with school counselors; Finally, prescriptive texts have been analyzed in relation to ADHD, such as domestic legislation, handbooks, and the medical records of boys and girls with the diagnosis. The data analysis has made from 5 analytical categories so-called “Problematization of Child Behavior”; “Institutionality and Control”; “Risk and Uncertainty”; “Appropriation of ADHD as a Way of Being” and “Gender, Care and Power Circulation on the Boys’ and Girls’ bodies”. The results have shown that ADHD still a valid clinical entity in Colombia, due to discursive elements about success, disability, and risk, which are part of human rights and social inclusion speech. Furthermore, it has found that the construction of ADHD follows gender patterns that give rise to a paradox that holds the girl’s body while making her invisible.
