Despite this, it is currently facing numerous pedagogical critics and loss of relevance in the medical education worldwide. At national level, the information regarding the way in which histology course is conceived and taught is fragmented, and there are no reports of pedagogical analysis of it. A literature review that goes since history of histology to its status as a preclinical course of medicine, including the pedagogical models and the didactic tools that were used and are currently used to teach it, is presented. Finally, to contribute to the understanding of the histological pedagogy in medicine at the national level, the results of an opinion survey about histology course, carried out on Colombian histology teachers, medical students and medical graduates are presented.
