Additionally, running economy is considered an important physiological measure for endurance athletes, especially distance runners. The objective of this research was to determine associations between core muscle activation, movement kinematics, and running economy expressed as oxygen consumption and energy expenditure needed to maintain running at a subthreshold intensity. This work was carried out with long-distance athletes in the city of Bogotá D.C. The study methodology was developed in two phases: a first phase corresponding to the characterization of athletes through body composition and ventilatory parameters calculated during an incremental stress test. In the second phase, the biomechanical evaluation of running and the measurement of the level of muscle activation of the core during a 20-minute test at constant load below the ventilatory threshold 2 (VT2) were performed. The results of this research allow us to conclude the presence of positive and negative correlations during the race between core muscle activation and kinematic variables of the pelvis and trunk. In addition, pelvic obliquity movement and erector spinae muscle activation level were shown to have high and moderate positive relationships with running economy.
