Además, requiere de procesos de análisis que permitan el reconocimiento de la exaptación y su respectiva gestión para convertirla en innovación, así como capacidades dinámicas que la soporten. dc.description.abstractThis theoretical and explanatory doctoral research addresses the problem of the formation of innovation strategies from the decisions and actions that guide the innovation process, taking as a reference the evolutionary phenomenon of exaptation, which is important for innovation due to the possibility of finding unforeseen applications to the products or technologies that the company dominates. Therefore, its general objective is based on explaining the formation of innovation strategies from the analysis of the innovative process as an exaptative phenomenon, to address this objective, a methodological triangulation is designed. Initially, a conceptual model for the formation of innovation strategies and a systematic review of the concept of exaptation and its relationship with innovation are proposed based on the literature review. Subsequently, a theoretical model of exaptative innovation strategy is proposed, as a representation of the strategic system. Finally, and seeking to enrich the understanding of the phenomenon studied, an empirical analysis of the model is made in a multiple case study and is complemented with a comparative case study that contrasts exaptation as an innovation strategy. It is concluded that the formation of exaptative innovation strategies is predominantly emergent in nature, but can also be favored by deliberate R&D practices. Furthermore, it requires analysis processes that carry out the recognition of exaptation and its respective management in order to turn it into innovation, as well as dynamic capabilities that support it.
