However, the results seem to be contradictory: although there is evidence of an increase in the competitiveness of innovative companies and the economic growth of certain countries, the major problems facing global society show worrying signs of persistence and even worsening. In this context, the concept of inclusive innovation arises, as an alternative proposal to competitive innovation, which seeks to direct the emphasis of innovation towards the construction of social welfare and human development. Innovation occurs in a systemic context, the university, as a fundamental actor in this system, is called to play a decisive role in redirecting towards inclusive innovation, considering the commitment that this institution has with society by its very nature. The objective of this thesis is to contribute to the understanding of the role of the university in the generation of inclusive innovation and, therefore, to generate proposals and recommendations for effective participation from the academic field. The methodology used consisted of approaching the phenomenon with quantitative and qualitative techniques, to generate modeling and computational simulation that allowed analyzing the complexities of the phenomenon under study. The main results show that the university is a primary actor in the generation of inclusive innovation, through its main objective which is social welfare and its missions (teaching, research, extension, sustainability) articulated with the capacities for innovation and inclusion, in an inclusive innovation system. Finally, a series of strategies are formulated that will allow the university to better contribute to the innovative and inclusive performance of a science, technology and innovation system aimed at achieving the sustainable development goals of humanity.
