Los resultados ponen de manifiesto la necesidad de que las empresas adopten el teletrabajo como estrategia para mejorar y contribuir a las metas sostenibilidad en articulación con las políticas públicas. dc.description.abstractTelework brings multiple benefits for employees and for the sustainability of companies, its evaluation and implementation took great relevance during the COVID-19 pandemic, by pushing for mandatory telework, and marking the beginning of a new era in the functioning of companies, but leaving questions about its evaluation and adoption, as a significant number of companies are still reluctant to adopt this mode of operational and work functioning within the same; while others continue under this model after its evaluation, finding numerous advantages. This doctoral thesis evaluated the adoption of telework and its effects on the sustainability of organisations in Medellín, Colombia. To do this, firstly, 72 managers with decision-making power were surveyed about the adoption of telework in their areas or organisations, and through structural equation modelling (SEM), the change over time of the factors influencing the decision to adopt telework and its consequent impacts on their intentions were examined. Subsequently, Bass' system dynamics diffusion model was adapted to simulate organisational and individual adoption of telework and the resulting impacts on their environmental sustainability using energy consumption and CO2 equivalent emissions in the transport sector as indicators. The results of the SEM modelling indicate that the importance of telework to operations and its ease of use significantly determine managers' attitudes towards its adoption. Based on information collected from 2012 to 2022 to validate Bass' system dynamics diffusion model that integrated these factors described above, and simulated scenarios to assess adoption to 2032, 1.6 million of Colombians are expected to adopt this mode of working by 2032. Furthermore, from a sustainability point of view, the adoption of telework is expected to potentially contribute to a 1.55% reduction in energy demand associated with the Colombian transport sector and a 2% reduction in CO2 equivalent emissions for the Colombian transport sector. The results highlight the need for companies to adopt telework as a strategy to improve and contribute to sustainability goals in articulation with public policies.
