Experiences of a Zio Bain indigenous community from Putumayo in the face of Covid-19 were addressed, to identify their ways of understanding and coping with the health emergency, socio-sanitary responses, cultural knowledge, organization and relationship of health with territory and environment. Semi-structured interviews of key actors were carried out for their practice and knowledge in the context of the pandemic, and participant observation of organizational processes in health was carried out. It was found that the effects generated by the pandemic in the community had a syndemic behavior, due to the convergence of previous precarious living conditions, the threat of the new virus and the negative economic, social, political and cultural impacts caused by the officially imposed restrictions, as mechanisms to contain and mitigate the pandemic. In the community, self-care socio-sanitary responses were generated, that were based on an active and comprehensive vision of health, based on the traditional management of spirituality, with the sacred plant of Yagé and the recognition of the Yai Bain as traditional authorities that guide the Buen Vivir. The management of medicinal plants with preventive, curative and recovery effects was very important, as resources that were fluidly combined with biomedical medicines. Coping with the pandemic constituted a chapter in the history of the political-organizational processes in health of the Zio Bain people, which was not interpreted only as a threat, but also as an opportunity to raise awareness about the value and importance of keeping alive the ancestral medicine.Palabras clave
