For decades, tenements have been the only housing option for many people in the city of Medellin. However, the problems surrounding this issue are constantly worsening due to a lack of attention to the experience of dwelling, understood through the relationship between space and emotion. This investigation seeks to understand the processes and aspects that define and affect tenements from a phenomenological perspective, using the heritage neighborhood of Prado as a laboratory in which tenancies have proliferated during the last decade due to the Venezuelan migration crisis. From a deep understanding of tenements as a minimal domestic scenario and their role in society, a series of phenomenological patterns that respond to this way of living were identified and analyzed, as well as the influence of their particular location and architectural conditions. These patterns, in turn, serve as a starting point to address the housing situation from a more humane and less exclusive perspective, especially highlighting the potential of a heritage neighborhood to achieve true well-being and topophilia. Keywords
