From the Biomimetics, which is understood as "nature-based solutions", this project aims to contribute to the specific knowledge through means of the characterization of a bilayer material made out of wood and linen textile fiber of natural origins, analyzed under the conditions of humidity in Bogotá. This process is performed through the emulation of the movement of conifer cones, which occurs as a response of changes in humidity. Therefore, it is essential to comprehend the hygromorphic processes that produces deformations due to humidity, as an opportunity to generate passive constructive solutions in order to face the control of environmental factors, to take advantage of the properties of the material. This paper is presented in three stages of work. The first stage emphases on studying the physical principles that can be observed in the hygromorphic behavior of the conifer cones that open their scales when dry and close when humidity levels increase due to its bilayer fabric structure. In the second stage, the materials to be used to emulate this process are selected. Two types of linen are chosen, since being vegetable sourced fibers, they have good water absorption and potentiate the response during the wetting/drying cycles of the bilayer. It is combined with six types of veneer and two union interfaces, in order to present in the third stage, the characterization of the bilayer material of wood and linen fiber with better responses under the variables of deformation, response time, and structural integrity over several cycles. Finally, the results that allow to assess performance are quantified, analyzing the applications in the construction sector and making a comparison based on previous research at a laboratory scale.Palabras clave
