Coordination in hospital supply chain management (HSCM) is crucial for enhancing the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery. This research empirically assessed the relationship between coordination determinants in HSCM and their effects on performance in a lean environment. The study, quantitatively explanatory and predictive in nature, unfolded in three phases: First, the HSCM was characterized between suppliers and healthcare institutions, pinpointing coordination determinants. Next, PLS-SEM was employed to scrutinize the model relationships, utilizing data from 108 Colombian IPS. Finally, moderation, mediation relationships, and predictive capacity of the model were evaluated, culminating in a proposed improvement strategy based on the findings. Determinants such as institutional framework, information and ICT, and human and social capital influence coordination in HSCM. Coordination exerts a positive impact on performance in clinical, financial, and technical aspects. Moreover, coordination influences the adoption of lean practices, with these practices mediating this relationship. The legal nature of IPS does not moderate the coordination-performance relationship, but it does moderate the relationship between determinants and coordination. The research contributions advance supply chain management theory, incorporating network theory and resource-based view. Further exploration from alternative relational perspectives and contextual evaluations are recommended for future research endeavors.
