A study was conducted to analyze the main challenges faced by actors in establishing governance structures that promote the sustainability of socio-ecosystems with tourism in Colombia. The study utilized a qualitative design with quantitative elements. Direct observation and interviews were conducted with tourism actors in three case studies: PNNN (94), Salento-Cocora (113), and San Cipriano (77). Additionally, focus groups were held in PNNN and Salento-Cocora (3 groups) and San Cipriano (2 groups). Data collection instruments were used to identify actors, describe their relationships, characterize socio- ecological conflicts, describe governance structures, and propose prospective scenarios for sustainable tourism in each case study. Various analysis techniques were employed, including Social Network Analysis (SNA), characterization of socio-ecological conflicts, and the Mic-Mac, Smic, and Mactor methods for alternative scenarios. The results revealed that governance actors face several key challenges, including: a) skills and capabilities; b) community participation; c) sustainability, competitiveness, and destination promotion; d) regulation and compliance with standards; e) social and external factors; f) local residents' quality of life, adaptation, and resilience to external changes; g) technology and coordination; and h) equity and management. It was concluded that the relationship between governance and the sustainability of socio-ecosystems with tourism is influenced by the type of actor network, which shapes the governance structure. Furthermore, this structure, in conjunction with socio-ecological conflicts, determines the alternative scenarios for tourism in each case study. Therefore, the challenges faced by each actor within their specific context can significantly impact the sustainability of socio-ecosystems with tourism.
