This thesis explores the relationship between visual attention and language, focusing on the online processing of static and dynamic events in older adults, with and without Alzheimer's disease. The research involved 48 individuals with Alzheimer's disease and a control group, who underwent a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment battery. Two experiments were conducted to explore oral productions, one with static events and another with dynamic events, and eye fixation metrics were captured. The methodology employed incorporated eye-tracking technology. The results revealed the importance of dynamic events as effective tools in the assessment and intervention for individuals with Alzheimer's disease. The average number of correct responses in naming static events in the AD group was 7.39, while for dynamic events it was 10.64. Significant connections were established between linguistic aspects, neuropsychological measures, and attentional orientation, specifying the complexity of the relationship between these elements in the context of the disease. For static events, the average number of verbs produced by the AD group was 9.1, compared to 12.04 for controls; for dynamic events, these averages were 18.3 for controls and 20.64 for AD group. The central conclusion of this research highlights that event processing is a tool in the assessment and intervention of people with Alzheimer's disease, expanding understanding of the disease both linguistically and attentionally. Additionally, the utility of online eye-tracking technology is underscored for the design of more precise assessments and interventions for the benefit of those affected by the disease. This innovative approach provides a comprehensive perspective that can transform how we approach and understand Alzheimer's disease.
