This work presents the design and construction of a prototype of enterprise architecture, with emphasis on business processes for the research vice-rectory of an Institution of Higher Education. The design of the architecture is focused on TOGAF and is complemented with Archimate for architectural visualization. The design of the business processes is done under the BPMN standard, using Bizagi. To carry out this project, it was necessary to build a state of the art that resulted in a research management model, which integrates the relevant features of the European and American research management frameworks, and the national policy of CTeI de Colciencias. Throughout the document is shown the analysis made to the research vicerectory identifying its current business architecture. Once this architecture has been identified, the objective architecture of the business is proposed and the gap analysis is carried out. Then the scope of the prototype is defined, designing its data architecture, applications and technology. With the development of the prototype on the Bizagi platform, it is verified that taking business processes to a certain level of automation easily allows stakeholders and senior management to know the state of execution of each of the processes and have high availability of information, facilitating decision making
