This master's thesis investigates the Adaptive Complex Systems (ACS) and this strategic application to architectural design. As a result of this research, the following document is presented: The System as Fragment, the Fragment as system, how the rite creates adaptation. The document is divided into three parts; the first part refers to the historical background, research and examples that allow the understanding of complex adaptive systems. Likewise, this stage will explore strategies aimed at the application and analysis of Complex Systems in the architectural project. These strategies will be the result of the inquiry between the theory of Jhon Holland and Francis Heylighen; and in texts that deal with the theory of architecture such as Variations of Identity- Type in Architecture by Carlos Martí Arís and Architecture Rites and rhythms by Arnau Amo. The second part will analyze four paradigmatic architectural projects that will account for the strategies discerned from the first chapter of this work. These projects are: The Red Wall - Architect Ricardo Bofill (1973), Kasbah - Architect Piet Blom (1974), Nexus World - OMA (1991) and Patio Houses - MVRDV (1999). At the same time, and simultaneously, these strategies will be implemented as project tools for the formulation of an architectural project based on the science of complexity. In its last section, this work will address the relationship between the fragment and the system based on the science of complexity. This relationship will be used as a strategy and analysis tool for the case studies and their applicability in the design exercise. Consequently, the continuous interaction between the system and the diff erent fragments allows the application of the science of complexity in the architectural project through the mathematical model of a network of relationships.Palabras clave
