This paper reviews the recent opening of the gallery “London,Sugar and Slavery” at the Museum in Docklands, in London, England.By looking at the exhibition from inside as well as from a wider context, this text links the main aims of the gallery and the Museum withcurrent discussions of museology and material culture. Thereby thiswork assesses and underlines the importance of the historical objectas a trace and representation of the social; the museum as a meetingplace of contemporary debates and the material culture studies asa common place to bring together, objects, people and social andcultural phenomena. These three points have been found clearlywithin the gallery and therefore it becomes a watch-worthy exampleof one of the several roles of material culture in society.Colecciones
