Abstract: Semat is an initiative developed for refounding the software engineering by defining a theoretical basis, best practices, and a set of widely-agreed elements. ISO/IEC 25000 (System and Software Quality Requirements and Evaluation-SQuaRE) is an international standard, which allows for evaluating the software product quality. ISO 25000 replaces ISO/IEC 9126 and ISO/IEC 14598 standards. Quality characteristics and measures of ISO/IEC 25000 and ISO/IEC 9126 standards are implicitly related to software system states of the Semat kernel in some studies. In other projects, a schematic relationship between ISO/IEC 9126 and ISO/IEC 25000 quality characteristics, sub-characteristics and measures is shown, but they lack explicit relationship between measures and characteristics with each one of the software system states of the Semat Essence. According to the aforementioned findings, in this PhD thesis we propose the development of a model for measuring software system alpha progress based on the ISO/IEC 2502n and the ISO/IEC 2504n standards. This PhD thesis is focused on the selection of the appropriate measures of the software system states in order to structure the relationships between them, validating them by using a case study methodology related to a software development company, and developing a model for product quality measurement. The results are promising since we can use them to establish a coherent and structural model for evaluating health and progress of the software system alpha of a software engineering endeavour.
