Variación espacio-temporal del ensamblaje de dinoflagelados potencialmente tóxicos epifitos de Thalassia testudinum (Banks ex König, 1805) en Santa Marta, Caribe colombiano

| dc.description.abstract | Considerando que algunos dinoflagelados producen toxinas que pueden afectar a otros organismos incluidos los seres humanos, el presente estudio se realizó con el objetivo de evaluar la variación espacio-temporal de los dinoflagelados epifitos potencialmente tóxicos y el efecto de algunas variables ambientales sobre su composición y densidad en dos sistemas costeros de Chengue PNNT, Caribe colombiano. Entre enero de 2014 y diciembre de 2015 se recolectaron mensualmente hojas de Thalassia testudinum para obtener los dinoflagelados, adicionalmente se midieron la salinidad, temperatura, oxígeno disuelto, pH, nutrientes y sólidos suspendidos totales (SST) y se obtuvieron los datos de precipitación. Los organismos se identificaron y cuantificaron, expresándose su densidad en número de células (cél.) g-1 peso húmedo (P.H). La información se analizó mediante pruebas estadísticas y modelos de regresión. Se observaron 14 especies correspondientes a cuatro géneros, siendo Prorocentrum el más representativo en número de especies. Los máximos de densidad, dominados por P. lima, se registraron en la Bahía durante la época de lluvias de 2014 (18452.46 y 20109.44 cél. g-1 P.H), con salinidades >35.50, altas temperaturas (>29.60 °C), oxígeno disuelto >6.00 mg L-1, pH cercano a 8.00 y SST >85.00 mg L-1. Las densidades en la Laguna fueron inferiores a 80 cél. g-1 P.H. con predominio de Prorocentrum sp1, bajo condiciones ambientales contrastantes. Mediante la relación entre las especies más abundantes (Bahía: P.lima, P. hoffmannianum y Ostreopsis cf. ovata y Laguna: Prorocentrum sp1 y P. rhathymum) y las principales variables ambientales, se plantearon modelos de nicho bajo los cuales podrían incrementar sus densidades. La presencia de éstos dinoflagelados representa un riesgo en la región mientras no se descarte su toxicidad. | dc.description.abstract | Considering that some dinoflagellates produce toxins that can affect other organisms including humans, the aim of this work was to evaluate the space-time variation of potentially toxic epiphytic dinoflagellates and the effect of some environmental variables in their composition and density in two coastal systems of Chengue, Tayrona National Natural Park, Colombian Caribbean. Between January 2014 and December 2015, leaves of Thalassia testudinum were collected monthly to obtain dinoflagellates. Salinity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, nutrients and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) were measured and precipitation data was obtained. The organisms were identified and quantified. The density was measured as cells g–1 substrate wet weight (W.W.). The information was analyzed using basic statistics and regression models. A total of 14 potentially toxic epiphytic dinoflagellate taxa from four genera were recovered. The genus Prorocentrum contained the largest number of species. The density peaks, dominated by P. lima, were found in Chengue Bay during the rainy season of 2014 (18452.46 and 20109.44 cells g-1 W.W.), with salinity of >35.50, high temperatures (>29.60 °C), Dissolved Oxygen > 6.00 mg L-1, pH close to 8.00 and TSS >85.00 mg L-1. The densities in the Lagoon were lower than 80 cells g-1 W.W. with highest values of Prorocentrum sp1, under contrasting environmental conditions. With the relationships between the most abundant species (Bay: P. lima, P. hoffmannianum y Ostreopsis cf. ovata and Lagoon: Prorocentrum sp1 y P. rhathymum) and the main environmental variables, fundamental niche models were proposed under which the densities of each specie could be increased. The presence of these dinoflagellates could represent a risk in the region until its toxicity is not discarded.
