The goal of the research was to evaluate the effect of the use of benzyl aminopurine (BAP) and thidiazuron (TDZ) on red rose plants of the Freedom variety and to interpret the physiological indices, rates of growth and commercial characteristics in a cultivation of the plateau of Bogota. Three levels of BAP and TDZ with and without wound generation at the base of the plants were applied. During two production cycles, length, stem size, fresh weight, dry weight, leaf area and harvested stems were measured. The results show a growth of basal and commercial stems adjusted to the logistic growth model. The application cytokinins with wound at the base of the plant potentiates the effect of phytohormones by increasing basal shoot production but decrease the length, caliber of stems as well as increasing the formation of blind stems. BAP concentrations of 5,000 and 10,000 mg L-1 increased the number of rose stems harvested, however, significantly longer and higher caliber floral stems were obtained without the use of these substances.
