dc.description.abstractEl fenómeno de imposex es una condición resultante de la exposición a compuestos orgánicos de estaño (COE) como el tributilo de estaño (TBT en inglés), que ocurre en organismos neogastrópodos y su detección es usada como indicador de contaminación. Se estudió el imposex para el diagnóstico de contaminación por COE en la costa del Caribe colombiano. El estudio se realizó entre los años 2015 a 2017 y se efectuaron hasta diez muestreos en cada una de las dos temporadas climáticas, seca y lluviosa. La metodología de estudio se aplicó en seis sitios en la franja costera del Caribe colombiano, uno en la isla de Tierra Bomba (TB), dos en la Bahía de Santa Marta (BSM: Marina Internacional de Santa Marta [SM] y Punta de Bertín [PdB]), dos en el Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona (PNNT: Bahía Concha [BC] y Nenguage [Neg]), y uno en Cabo de la Vela (CV); se usaron como factores ambientales las variables fisicoquímicas y microbiológicas del agua, el tráfico marítimo y la exposición al oleaje. Se emplearon índices de imposex en cinco especies de neogasterópodos (Plicopurpura patula, Vasula deltoidea, Stramonita haemastoma, S. floridana y Gemophos auritulus), y la morfometría geométrica de la concha de P. patula. Se analizaron tres enfoques básicos, uno hacia el aspecto ambiental centrado en el tráfico marítimo y las variables de calidad del agua, otro orientado al fenómeno del imposex y su asociación a las variables ambientales y finalmente un enfoque dirigido hacia la forma de la concha en relación al fenómeno imposex y la exposición al oleaje. Los resultados evidencian niveles altos de coliformes totales (CT) e hidrocarburos disueltos y dispersos equivalentes de criseno (HPDD) en el agua de SM, originados por la cercanía a fuentes urbanas de contaminación y asociados a un elevado tráfico marítimo en la BSM. Así mismo, se encontró una mayor prevalencia de imposex en los sitios con mayor tráfico marítimo, con P. patula como la especie más sensible. Las conchas presentaron diferencias morfométricas en los sitios de muestreo, aunque sin correlación significativa con respecto al imposex y la exposición al oleaje.spa
dc.description.abstractThe imposex (occurrence of non-functional sexual masculine characters in female neogastropods) is a phenomenon caused by the exposition to tin organic compounds (TOCs) as tributyltin (TBT) and its detection is used as an indicator of contamination. In this work the phenomenon of imposex was studied for its use in the diagnosis of contamination by TOCs in the Colombian Caribbean coast. The study was conducted between the years of 2015 to 2017 running up to ten samplings in each one of the two climate seasons, rainy and dry. The methodology of study was applied in six sampling stations located in the Colombian Caribbean coast: one in the Tierra Bomba island (TB), two in Santa Marta’s Bay (BSM: International Marine of Santa Marta [SM] and Punta de Betín [PdB]), two in Tayrona National Natural Park (PNNT: Bahía Concha [BC] and Nenguage [Neg]) and one in Cabo de La Vela (CV). Physicochemical and microbiological variables of water quality, maritime traffic and wave exposure were used as environmental factors. Three basic approachs were made, one towards the environmental aspect centered in maritime traffic and water quality variables, other one oriented to the imposex phenomenon and its association to the environmental variables and finally, an approach directed to the neogastropods shell form related to imposex and wave exposure. In the biological level, there were used indexes associated to imposex in five neogastropod species (Plicopurpura patula, Vasula deltoidea, Stramonita haemastoma, S. floridana and Gemophos auritulus) and the shell geometric morphometrics of P. patula. The results show high levels of total coliforms and of dissolved and dispersed petroleum hydrocarbons related to chrysene equivalents (DDPH) in SM sampling station, caused by the nearness to urban sources of contamination and associated to a high maritime traffic in BSM sampling station. Likewise, it was found a major prevalence of imposex in places with higher maritime traffic with P. patula as the most sensible species. Shells showed morphometric differences in sampling stations, although without significant correlation with respect to imposex and wave exposure.spa
