Due to the qualities that snakes have to perform locomotion on any surface with great ease and without suffering severe wear, the skin of this species was evaluated as the organ responsible of these characteristics in order to apply this knowledge to the design of artificial surfaces for high energy consumption and high wear applications. The first part of this research was oriented to the study of morphological, topographic and tribological properties of the ventral scales of the species commonly known as albino royal python using techniques such as light optical microscopy (LOM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and tribological evaluation in a pin-on-disc tribometer. A number of parameters describing the deterministic nature of the surface were calculated and then used as inspiration for the design of textured surfaces on AISI 52100 steel by computerized numerical control (CNC) machining. The tribological response of the textured surfaces against AISI H13 steel showed a reduction in the coefficient of friction in comparison to conventional surfaces, as well as an anisotropic behavior related to the direction of sliding.spa
