El sistema Usoniano. Variaciones en la vivienda de costo moderado de Frank Lloyd Wright

Abstract

El objetivo de esta investigación es examinar la serie de casas usonianas diseñadas entre 1936 y 1959 y cómo se vieron afectadas por la crisis posterior a 1929. Las inquietudes sobre la vivienda mínima en los Estados Unidos eran inevitables, buscando proporcionar una solución que involucrara aspectos económicos, constructivos y sociales; considerando la perspectiva del arquitecto mismo para abordar el tema de las viviendas asequibles, así como el condicionamiento que realizaron estos aspectos frente al desarrollo de este tipo de proyectos, especialmente al reducir los elementos espaciales y materiales al mínimo necesario, volviendo las viviendas más eficientes.

Se establecen premisas desde el contexto para definir las necesidades prioritarias de la época y las características de la vivienda de costo moderado, las cuales sirven para filtrar y escoger los casos de estudios; los cuales después serán sometidos a variables de análisis que indagan componentes estructurales, compositivos, programáticos, técnicos y espaciales.

Finalmente, se establece una transformación de los proyectos asociados a diferentes cambios en el contexto en el transcurso de 30 años, configurando un sistema de relaciones que se acomodan a cada uno de los cambios observados para responder adecuadamente a las condicionantes económicas adversas (Texto tomado de la fuente).

The objective of this research is to examine the series of Usonian houses designed between 1936 and 1959 and how they were affected by the crisis after 1929. Concerns about minimum housing in the United States were inevitable, seeking to provide a solution that involves economic, constructive, and social aspects. Considering the perspective of the architect himself to address the issue of the moderate cost house, as well as how these aspects conditioned the development of this type of projects by reducing the spatial and material elements to the minimum, making them more efficient.

Certain premises are established from the context to define the needs of the time and the characteristics of the moderate-cost house, which are used to filter and choose the object of study which will later be subjected to analysis variables that investigate structural, compositional, programmatic, technical, and spatial components.

Finally, a transformation of the projects associated with different changes in the context is established over the course of 30 years, configuring a system of relationships which adapt to each of these changes to respond appropriately to these adverse economic conditions.
