La cuenca del río Magdalena cuenta con información sedimentológica suficiente para aplicar un modelo de regresiones lineales múltiples para la construcción de un modelo estadístico que estime razonablemente la producción de sedimentos de lavado en una cuenca a partir de un conjunto limitado de variables físicas, de cobertura del suelo e hidrológicas. Se seleccionaron 17 subcuencas localizadas algunas de ellas en el cauce principal del río Magdalena y otras en algunos de sus afluentes, a las cuales se les estimaron 15 parámetros morfológicos, hidrológicos y de cobertura de suelo, y se utilizaron para determinar su grado de significancia en la construcción de dos modelos paramétricos. para estimar el Transporte sólido como la Carga de lavado y el Rendimiento sólido.
