The present thesis takes as a starting point the hypothesis that US and the American power elites transmitted the American Way of Life through the Nasserism: the project of the Egyptian elites. Soft power and smart power were exercised by US, the Egyptian elites and its allies in Middle East to secure the American interest in the region. Primary and secondary sources in six languages and several historiographies were consulted to prove this hypothesis. The analysed categories are orientalism, as a speech of racial superiority, realpolitik, as policy of national interest, and elite, as a superior group of persons who rule the country. The last one complemented “power elite” of Charles Wright Mills, higher circles who control the political, economic and military power. It is also associated to “lobbies” of John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt, a coalition of individuals and institutions that influence the US-foreign policy in a Pro-Israel direction. In conclusion, US has expanded the American Way of Life since the 1820s through its imagen as “anticolonial power” to differentiate itself from France, Britain and the Ottoman Empire. The American Way of life between was adapted to the Nasserist policies and expanded through the smart power in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Iraq between 1952 and 1963. This will play a role in the US-interest in the region and its configuration of alliances with regional powers and elites.eng
