Resumen: En el marco histórico de los procesos y dinámicas culturales de una sociedad, la investigación titulada “El barniz de Pasto: Testimonio del mestizaje cultural en el sur occidente colombiano, 1542- 1777”, procura interpretar las circunstancias por las cuales la técnica del barniz se sitúa en la ciudad de Pasto, y analizar cómo se convierte en una manifestación cultural.
Abstract: Under the historical framework of the cultural processes of a society, the research called “El Barniz de Pasto: Testimonio del mestizaje cultural en el sur occidente colombiano, 1542-1777” (The “Barniz” from Pasto: Testimony of the cultural miscegenation in the south-west of Colombia), seeks for understanding the determinant conditions that placed the technique called “Barniz” in the city of Pasto; and analyzing how this practice is a demonstration of the cultural mixture between Hispanic and American cultures. The results of the research are obtained from the analysis of documental data and furniture decorated with this artistic technique during the colonial period, from a cultural history approach.
