By adopting the Darwin Core standard and a REST API, the CFC enhances data interoperability with national and global platforms, providing updated taxonomic information to diverse stakeholders. Its user-friendly interface allows real-time updates of species profiles, supporting dynamic management compared to static lists. While comprehensive in coverage, areas for improvement include better documentation of taxonomic history, integration of genetic data, and stronger collaboration with national entities. This document examines the governance of the CFC as well, evaluating the roles of key actors and implementing quality metrics to assess its strengths and weaknesses in comparison to other species catalogues and checklists. The CFC serves as a model for future biodiversity initiatives in other biological groups, emphasizing collaboration, data accessibility, and its critical role in conservation efforts.eng

This study draws from the development of the Catalogue of the Fishes of Colombia (CFC), providing a detailed account of the processes and technical components involved in creating a web-based species catalogue. By outlining the platform’s construction and components, this thesis seeks to demonstrate the utility of the CFC as a repository for fundamental species information and its potential to serve as a model for other biodiversity catalogues. The catalogue, developed through collaboration among national scientists and the broader taxonomic community, also functions as a tool for data exchange between national systems and global species databases, further highlighting its role in biodiversity informatics.
