Ernesto Guhl vino al país en 1936, huyendo del nazismo, en busca de horizontes para su vida y para su ciencia. Formado como Geógrafo en Alemania, desde su ingreso a Colombia se vinculó a la docencia, primero en la Escuela Normal Superior y posteriormente en la Universidad Nacional de Colombia. A la formación de generaciones universitarias ha dedicado sus mayores esfuerzos. Ha sido conferenciante y articulista. Viajero permanente. Tratadista de la Geografía, dentro de un concepto totalizador. En muchas ocasiones la Universidad Nacional publicó su texto básico, en mimeógrafo, bajo el título "Colombia: bosquejo de su geografía tropical". Posteriormente tuvo el interés de ampliarlo, para lo cual contó con los auspicios de la Fundación John Simon Guggenheim. Al terminar su tratado y entregarlo, bajo contrato, para edición, los originales desaparecieron misteriosamente. Reconstruyó, en lo que estuvo a su alcance, el tratado, y el Instituto Colombiano de Cultura -COLCULTURA- lo editó en dos volúmenes, bajo el mismo título de aquellas conferencias de la Universidad (Nos. 5 y 11, de la serie 'Biblioteca Básica Colombiana', 1975, 1976)Abstract
The presence of Germans in America comes from times of the Conquest. Notable figures from Germany have participated effectively to the cultural development of the continent, in all stages of its development. Ernesto Guhl came to the country in 1936, fleeing the Nazis, in search of new horizons for his life and for science. Trained as a geographer in Germany, since joining Colombia is linked to teaching, first at the Escuela Normal Superior and later at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. A university education of generations has devoted their greatest efforts. He has been a lecturer and columnist. Permanent traveler. Treatise of geography within a totalizing concept. On many occasions the National University published his basic text, mimeographed, entitled "Colombia: sketch of tropical geography." Then had the interest to extend, for which was sponsored by the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. At the end of his treatise and deliver, under contract, for editing, original mysteriously disappeared. Rebuilt in what was at hand, the treaty, and the Colombian Institute of Culture -COLCULTURA- edited it in two volumes under the same title of those lectures at the University (Nos. 5 and 11, the series' Library basic Colombiana ', 1975, 1976).Keywords
