Abstract. In the present thesis, language and being are the central axes of discussion, since it is assumed that Cesar Vallejo‟s poetry takes part of an approach in which time, existence, death, words and silence, represent the bases of his poetical construction. In the first chapter, there is a general characterization of the particularities of Vallejo's poetical work: language as the absence of home. The second chapter inquires into the relationship that exists between language and existence, and the last chapter closes with an exploration of the notion of silence as poetical expression, which in the end determines the tension between being and his environment, which leads us to propose the idea of language as the absence of home.
