La historiografía grecolatina y sus vicisitudes en la historiografía contemporánea

Abstract

La historiografía antigua es mucho más que un relato de historias político militares. Sus características filosóficas y retóricas manifiestan una antigua y elegante labor que desborda el apelativo francés que la escuela de Annales le impuso durante el siglo XX en tanto que histoire événementielle. Por esto mismo, bajo la observación de sus características, el antiguo régimen de historicidad merece una mirada diferente que permita a los historiadores contemporáneos reconocerla como un ejercicio retórico y espiritual donde la emoción de los lectores se excita mediante distintas estrategias para incitar al punto el deseo de conocer y el deseo de actuar. Acciones que corresponden y se orientan bajo la dirección del consejo fundamental de la ética antigua: “conócete a ti mismo”.

Abstract: Ancient historiography is much more than an account of military political histories. Its philosophical and rhetorical characteristics show an old and elegant work that overflows the French appellative that the school of Annales imposed to him during century XX as histoire événementielle. For this reason, under the observation of its characteristics, the old regime of historicity deserves a different look that allows contemporary historians to recognize it as a rhetorical and spiritual exercise where the emotion of the readers is excited by different strategies to incite to the point the desire of Know and the desire to act. Actions that correspond and are guided under the direction of the fundamental advice of ancient ethics: “know thyself”.
