Abstract

La venta de armamentos franceses (cañones Schneider) a Perú fue interrumpida entre 1913 y 1933 debido a una deuda. Este artículo muestra por qué se reanudó y cómo lo hizo. Se hace énfasis en el rol que tuvieron intermediarios militares de ambos países, así como en la importancia de contingencias históricas específicas. Su fuente principal es la correspondencia oficial del Agregado Militar de Francia en Lima entre 1930 y 1933. Algunas de sus cartas hacen pensar que la corrupción fue determinante en la solución del problema, pero no se han encontrado pruebas definitivas al respecto.

The export of French arms (Schneider cannons) to Peru was interrupted between 1913 and 1933 due to debt. This article shows so why it was resumed and emphasizes the performance of military intermediaries of both countries, as well as the importance of specific historical contingencies. The article’s main source is the official correspondence of the military attaché of France in Lima between 1930 and 1933; some of his letters suggest that corruption was crucial in solving the problem, but no conclusive evidence on the matter has been found.
