Modelo de gestión para el análisis de los factores de deserción en el Tecnológico de Antioquia

Abstract

Este trabajo presenta el diseño de una bodega de datos que permite almacenar la caracterización a estudiantes activos y graduados del Tecnológico de Antioquia-Institución Universitaria y se plantea este como elemento esencial en la formulación de un modelo de gestión. En primera instancia se identifican algunas variables clave para la caracterización de estudiantes, tomadas de la literatura existente, posteriormente se plantea el diseño de una bodega de datos para almacenar dicha información, ya que esta permite realizar un análisis multidimensional y minería de datos de forma periódica. Finalmente, se agrupa a los individuos de acuerdo con las características. En el trascurso del proyecto se evidenció la inclusión de otras variables de tipo individual e institucional que, sumadas a las ya mencionadas de tipo social y académico, amplían el rango de determinantes que influyen en el proceso de culminación de la formación académica de un estudiante o en su posible deserción. La caracterización se realizó utilizando una encuesta de participación voluntaria socializada para los estudiantes activos a través del sitio web http://www.tdea.edu.co, las redes sociales de la institución en Twitter y Facebook y a través de correo electrónico enviado a los graduados desde la oficina de egresados. Debido a la cantidad de registros captados, para el diseño de la bodega de datos se utilizaron las siguientes herramientas: almacenamiento en Microsoft Excel 2016, información que se descargó de los formularios habilitados en Google Drive. Para la herramienta de extracción de la información del sistema transaccional (Campus) se utiliza Microsoft SQL. Para la elaboración de reportes y vistas se utilizan las tablas dinámicas de Microsoft Excel 2016, al igual que las funciones de cubo de Excel y para las reglas de asociación (minería de datos) se utilizó el programa de distribución libre Weka en su versión 3.8.1. Se encontró que la literatura ofrece un grupo de variables que han sido compiladas desde 1970 y pueden incidir en la decisión de permanencia del estudiante, pero es necesario ampliar el rango a otras que surgen de las dinámicas diversas de las instituciones y el Estado. Por esto, se incluyen nuevas variables que permiten otras posibilidades de análisis, como consultar al respecto de los tiempos de desplazamiento hasta la institución, las actividades extra-académicas, las situaciones vividas —incluye consultar por discriminación— y su rendimiento académico en la secundaria; finalmente se recomienda involucrar a futuro los resultados de los seguimientos que realiza el Estado por medio de las pruebas Saber 9 y la cooperación interinstitucional.

In the present work shows the design of a data warehouse that allows you to store the data from the characterization to active students and graduates of the Technologic de Antioquia - University Institution and considers this as an essential element in the formulation of a management model. In the first instance identifies some key variables for the characterization of students, taken from the existing literature, subsequently raises the design of a data warehouse where to store such information as this allows you to perform a multidimensional analysis and data mining on a regular basis. Finally, individuals are grouped according to the characteristics. The characterization was carried out using a survey of voluntary participation for students socialized assets through the Web page http://www.tdea.edu.co and their social networks Twitter and Facebook, and through e-mail sent to the graduates from the office of graduates of the institution. Due to the number of records captured, for the design of the data warehouse the following tools were used: storage in Microsoft Excel 2016, information that was downloaded from the forms enabled in Google Drive. For the information extraction tool of the transactional system (Campus) Microsoft SQL is used. For this reason, it included new variables that allow other possibilities, such as analysis, refer to the respect of the times of displacement to the Institution, extra-curricular activities, situations (includes consulting by discrimination) and their academic performance in high school, finally it is recommended to involve future results from surveys carried out by the State by means of the tests Saber9 and inter-agency cooperation
