Resumen

Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) are becoming increasingly necessary in Colombia, due to the increase of people living in cities and the drastic and rapid changes that are generated in nature by accelerated urbanization. Colombian regulations have progressed in the regulation and requirement of SUDS as an important characteristic for new development projects and these systems are increasingly used in our context. In this research, the hydraulic assessment of a type of SUDS known as a detention tank was carried out, which was built with cellular elements in the Laboratorio de Ensayos Hidráulicos of the National University of Colombia (LEH-UN), Bogotá. Existing methods for sizing detention tanks built with cellular elements assume that the water has a horizontal surface, and this was experimentally assessed varying the inlet flow to the tank, to measure the level and outlet flow variables. Measured data was compared with results of a mathematical simulation under a leveled pool condition and through a statistical analysis, the hydraulic performance was evaluated. This document seeks to provide knowledge about the hydraulic behavior of detention tanks with cellular elements.
