Mentoring is the most valuable component of startup acceleration programs, according to the research. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the added value perceived by the participants of an acceleration program, about the mentoring they received during that program. Different functions that the mentors performed during a mentoring relationship were explored. Additionally, the added values of the mentoring relationships were established, according to the previous literature. This allowed us to solve the following research question: What is the added value that entrepreneurs in Valle del Cauca perceive about mentoring for early stage companies? The study was conducted using data collected with 46 entrepreneurs who participated in at least 75% of the mentoring in Valle E program in seventh cohort. This program was carried out between June and August of 2019. Hierarchical regression models were used to determine the relationship between the added value perceived by the entrepreneurs based on the different functions exercised by the mentors. The results confirm that entrepreneurs really perceived aggregate values both at the individual level and at the business level. The psychological functions performed by the mentors showed the greatest relevance. The behavior of the sex variable motivated important future discussions about the gender approach in acceleration programs. This study is the first in Latin America to study the added value of mentoring, as the main component of acceleration programs.spa
